WHAT IS AUTOMOTIVE DETAILING?

Detailing is not just a wash and wax, but a barrage of cleaning aimed at
every speck of dirt, dust and grease on your car, until it is as clean
or cleaner than the day you drove it off the showroom floor. Using
soft cloths, toothbrushes and cotton swabs, a full detail includes hand-washing,
degreasing the engine, hand-polishing and waxing, a thorough cleaning of
the car's interior, treating all the rubber, vinyl, leather and wood, and
washing the windows inside and out. As the name implies, auto detailing
is about details. It is not uncommon to see a detailer take a toothbrush
to the spoke of a wheel or a chemically treated cotton swab to an air conditioner
vent. Detailing has become part of the expanding market of service
products offered to meet the need generated by the frantic pace kept by
many of today's consumers. With the increase of the two career couple,
or as the young executive advances up the career path, time becomes more
scarce and thus more valuable. Many people find it more cost effective
and certainly easier to pay someone to do the tasks they no longer have
time for. Today's busy executive simply doesn't have the time to
go to the car wash and interrupt their busy schedule; and leisure time
has become more precious than ever.
